Google has launched a new set of features to their search engine which they call “Search Options”. It bring a collection of tools that lets us slice-and-dice our search results to find what we want faster.
The new features includes the ability to filter a search by types such as Forums, Videos, Reviews, etc. We can also filter the results by time, show more description text, and even show thumbnail images from the page. But the best feature has to be the Wonder Wheel – a diagrammatic way to represent related keywords.
How do you get access to the Search Options? Well, it’s really simple. Once you’ve done a search, you will see “Show options…” link at the top of the search results, next to ‘Web’.
The side of the search page will expand and show you a list of options:
The Wonder Wheel is probably the coolest part of the new features. What it does is show related keywords/phrases that branches out from your current keywords. When you select a related keyword, you do another search and the search results on the right updates to results based on the new search.
You could go on and on with this. Very neat.
Timeline is another nice feature. It lists the results based on different periods in time. You can drill-down from years to months, framing a period of time and getting the content relevant for that time.
